Bachelor of Science "Virtuelle Realitäten"

Everyone starts small. So did I: My hobby evolved into a career, thanks to a beautiful series of coincidences. With no prior experience in the IT sector but armed with a passion for new ideas and a vision I began my academic journey at SRH university, Heidelberg where I received my bachelor's degree.

Priming durch Virtual Reality (Bachelorthesis)

Toward the end of my studies, I developed a keen interest in the concept of priming. I was intrigued by the extent to which a medium like virtual reality (VR) could subconsciously influence people. Priming is a phenomenon we encounter in our daily lives, yet we often remain unaware of its impact. I wanted to learn more and explore it further !

VRHorizon

In virtual environments, users can move almost infinitely while actually staying within a small area in real space. Several techniques, such as Infinite Walking and Redirected Walking, have been developed for this purpose. However, to overcome their respective limitations, a combination of these techniques with visual effects and tricks is necessary to create the impression of a realistic environment and movement. I'm delighted to introduce the prototype of a shopping mall simulator that I, along with five team members, developed as our final project for our bachelor's degree. This simulator enables infinite motion in 3D within a 639 square meter virtual space, despite the constraints of a 5 x 5 meter VR sensor range, allowing players to freely explore multiple floors of a meticulously designed shopping mall.

V(ah)Rschule

For driving schools, hence the name V(ah)Rschule (German), our team has developed a simulation that enables learners to acquire basic skills in a virtual world—skills often not covered in traditional driving schools due to time and cost constraints. This application allows learner drivers to study independently, gaining valuable knowledge and experience without the need for physical exertion in the real world or the risk of making errors.

This was intended to be the first of many virtual reality projects for me. As part of a group of ten, including fellow beginners and more experienced students from higher academic years, we developed the driving school simulation over the course of four months.

Spooky Maze

(Boardgame adaption from Ravensburger in 3D)
In this project, our team of five developed a Halloween version of the Ravensburger board game 'Das verrückte Labyrinth' over a three-month period. This project marked a special development step in my career. For the first time, we had to develop something using the Unity Engine.

Its new possibilities fascinated me from the start.
